After six months of waiting, Multiglot 12 has arrived! In what is the largest release in two years, the interface and all language courses have been totally rebuilt. Foreign languages on offer are British English, European Spanish, French, German, and Czech. It’s also possible to use each of these languages as your native language whilst learning! There are currently over 13000 things Multiglot can teach you—for free!—and more things are being added daily.
This rebuild was a huge undertaking, motivated by a desire to be able to offer more choices of activity, to split the dictionaries into nouns, verbs, and adjectives parts of speech, and to pave the way for much more content and activities to be added in the near future. For the first time, it’s possible to choose how large a quiz you want to take, so if you’re waiting for the bus and only have one minute to spare—no problem! Not only that, but there’s an entirely new section which lets you target specific areas of the language course, such as practising only verbs, or perhaps just spelling.
The spaced repetition learning algorithm has been improved to make the quizzes less repetitive, and things you already know are detected more quickly. Your progress across different areas of the language course are now tracked and broken down into different skill areas, and revision of material you’ve seen before is mixed into your quizzes automatically. The media used in questions have been expanded massively to almost 14000 images! Work has also been done on decreasing the number of ambiguous questions appearing in quizzes, and a new corrections system will let any mistakes in the courses get fixed far more quickly.
A new scoring system tracks your level within each language, and lets you compare it to other languages (you multiglot, you!). Your current streak is also shown: try to take at least one quiz every day, so the automated revision system can keep things fresh in your memory. A simple chart now shows how many minutes you spent learning over the past week, and another chart shows how your score has improved over the past year. Progress through each course is now indicated as a simple percentage, so you can see at a glance how many of our questions you’ve seen—and when we’ve added new content to your language course!
You can sign up with just an email address and finish your first quiz within minutes—all for free!
Good luck! 🇬🇧 🇪🇸 🇫🇷 🇩🇪 🇨🇿 🐠
