Multiglot 3—Dobrý den! Welcome, Czech!

20. Prosinec 2022

Dobrý den! Multiglot now speaks Czech! I’m pleased to present the third version of Multiglot—an educational app for learning language vocabulary. For the first time, Multiglot supports a non-English language: Czech is a Slavic language within the Indo-European family, with over 10 million native speakers (plus one enthusiastic amateur…). It’s the main language spoken in Prague, one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. Multiglot can now teach you 153 Czech words, manually translated by a team of fluent Czech speakers, with diacritics fully marked for superior spelling. Even if you don’t need to learn the language, learning Czech with Multiglot can be a great way to give your brain a daily workout (especially as Czech is one of the more challenging languages for native English speakers)!

English students are not neglected, either! Multiglot now has 384 English words—that’s 163 more than in the last version! For both languages, you can start off with simple recognition exercises, and then also test your spelling (for many, but not all, words). Flashcards are created specifically for you, and are dynamically updated to ensure you’re memorising the concept rather than a specific image (and to keep things interesting). Multiglot now creates these flashcards from a pool of 3042 images—that’s over one thousand images more than in the last version!

And as if all that isn’t exciting enough, Multiglot now has an improved flashcard system, with progress bars for recognition and spelling activities, and a streamlined interface to make navigation more efficient (try clicking the logo during exercises). Various fixes have been made to the English dictionary (long live the turtles! and the polar bears!), and the entire app has been optimised to load and mark exercises more quickly. A lot of work has also gone into optimising the spelling activity for small screens (those pesky virtual keyboards…)—so now using Multiglot on your mobile is better than ever!
